Position Summary
The Hampton United Methodist Church (HUMC), located in Hampton, NH, is seeking a part-time Choir Director to direct volunteer choir members performing music for church services and programs. This position reports to the Organist/Director of Music and helps to ensure that music is an integral part of the worship experience. The Director will understand and share HUMC’s commitment to sharing the love of Christ and will work to communicate that vision through music.
Essential Functions

- As an integral member of the worship team, work with the Music Director to plan and direct the choir music for every Sunday morning worship service held September through June.
- Plan and lead weekly Thursday evening rehearsals and Sunday morning performances of the vocal music choir.
- May be asked to assist in administering the Church’s contract with One License (the live-streamed music subscription service) and ensure compliance with all requirements.
Experience and Qualifications
The preferred candidate will have the skills, schedule, and experience necessary to carry out the essential functions of the position and will continue to hone their craft to bring out the best in the choir.
Required:
- Knowledge of sacred choral music and the ability to select anthems for worship suitable to the ability of the choir
- At least 2 years of experience as a choral director
- A well-rounded musician with conducting skills and an understanding of music and voices
- Successful experience working effectively with groups of volunteer singers
- Experience in training groups in effective choral singing techniques
- Demonstrated ability to interact with others with compassion, collaboration, and effective interpersonal skills
Preferred:
- Familiar with the form and expectations of church worship
- Proficient piano skills; the ability to play the organ is a plus
